Do not know what shirt to wear or how to combine it? Business Insider shows here the six (unique) styles of shirt collars that you should use.

Within men’s fashion, shirt collars have experienced a revolution. The demands of modern man both in the office and outside of it have made this change necessary.

Nowadays the collars are usually narrower, shorter and have a wider extension taking into account the flaps and the thinner adjustments that are so fashionable these days. They also allow you to remove your tie after work, which is very important in these less formal times.

However, when it comes to casual work clothes, there are usually only Five types of shirt collars to take into account. Below the styles proposed in a stylesmen article.

1. Spread Can it be worn without a tie? YES. One of the most common shirt collars today is the Spread or “Italian collar”, which comes in a variety of angles and points. Spread or “extension” refers to the distance between the points of the neck.

2. Forward Point Can it be used without a tie? DO NOT. The most traditional choice, the Forward Point collar is no longer used by some because of the need for a tie. A smaller opening between the neck flaps allows a greater variety of tie knots.

3. Tab Can it be used without a tie? DO NOT. A strange style nowadays, the popularity of the Tab collar has suffered ups and downs in the last century. The designer Tom Ford has tried to bring back the style with James Bond, whom he dressed for the last film of agent 007, “Skyfall”. Unfortunately, this brief popularity did not continue.

4. Cutaway Can it be worn without a tie? DO NOT. Designed to be worn with a large tie knot, the Cutaway neck is named after the fact that it literally looks like someone has “cut” part of the fabric. Consider it an extreme spread that is more common on red carpets than in meeting rooms.

5. Button-Down Can it be worn without a tie? YES. Another neck that has gained more followers is the Button-Down, that in principle was applied to shirts buttoned in Oxford cloth. Nowadays, the Button-Down style can be used even with casual clothes.
