Detailed guide for the maintenance of the beard

Having a beard is not simply about letting it grow. The key to a beautiful facial hair is proper maintenance. But how do you get that exactly? Nobody teaches us how to take care of our beards. But, quiet, that’s what we are for.

The answer is to use the right tools. “You have to wash and condition the beard every three days so that the hair is clean and healthy,” says Dom Williams of the AONO barbershop. “The oils and balms for the beard are also fantastic because they help moisturize the skin and soften unruly hair.” But is it possible to convert Gandalf’s beard into David Beckham’s? We bring you the best tips to maintain a quality beard.

1. LET IT GROW

It may seem obvious, but it is important. The admired beards of Jon Hamm or model Ricki Hall did not grow overnight. They had to make a practically herculean effort to overcome periods with itching and phases with many irregularities in the face.

To become a beard it takes time, effort and restraint. We recommend that you do not touch it during the first month approximately because some hairs grow faster than others and in this way a good length is achieved in the entire beard

2. ADAPT IT TO THE FORM OF YOUR FACE

Here you can read our complete guide on the styles of beard according to the shape of your face. In short, what you need to know is that the beard has to complement the shape of your face. The lucky ones who have an oval shape can leave any type of beard; the rectangular faces should bet on short sides and a longer length on the bottom and the round ones need a contour as stylized as possible and, undoubtedly, short sides. The best thing you can do is go to a barbershop and ask them to advise you.

3. SHORT, SHORT, SHORT

A Jumanji-type beard only has an appropriate context: Jumanji. You would never let your hair grow out of control, so why do it with a beard? Get a good trimmer or, better, go to the barbershop frequently to match it. If the hair is the crown that we wear every day, we could say that the beard is his noble brother.

4. REMEMBER TO COMBINE

Some beards become very rebellious as they grow, with hairs pointing in all directions. When combing the beard, those hairs become more disciplined and grow in the same direction. In our House of Grooming beard kit we include a comb and a care guide, as well as the balm and oil so everything is under control.
